Ms. Hummer-Tuttle succeeds Mark S. Siegel, who was initially elected to serve as Board Chair in June 2010, and then re-elected to serve an additional year in June 2014.
“I have known Maria professionally and personally for many years,” said Mark S. Siegel. “She has a unique combination of intelligence, warmth, and leadership skills that makes her the ideal person to chair the Getty’s Board of Trustees. Maria knows and loves art, has a true global perspective, and she understands how the arts can positively impact every person. I am delighted that she will succeed me as Board Chair.”
Ms. Hummer-Tuttle joined the board in April 2009. She has served on a number of boards including The Music Center of Los Angeles County, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles World Affairs Council, Children’s Institute Inc., Pitzer College, Mount St. Mary’s College and Scripps College. She currently serves on the boards of Caltech, the W.M. Keck Foundation and the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies. She is president of The Hummer Tuttle Foundation, serves on the Advisory Board of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy at the Annenberg School, the Program Advisory Committee of The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands and is a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Caltech Space Innovation Council. She co-authored the book Winfield House, published by Thames & Hudson. She received her BA from Scripps College and her JD from UCLA School of Law and practiced law for approximately 20 years and was a partner and chair of the management committee of Manatt, Phelps and Phillips in Los Angeles.
“In my six years on the Board of Trustees, I have been privileged to work with an extremely talented and committed group of colleagues, and I have seen this institution’s work make a global difference,” said Ms. Hummer-Tuttle. “I am honored to help lead the Getty in its work with its collections, conservation projects, scholarly research and publications, and philanthropy. We shall continue to undertake activities around the world, wherever the need is greatest.”
Mr. Siegel will remain on the Board through June 2017. “We are grateful for Mark’s leadership over the years. The Getty is in a much stronger position since he assumed the Chairmanship,” said James Cuno, president and CEO of the J. Paul Getty Trust. “We very much look forward to Maria’s leadership. She brings an international perspective to the position, which is increasingly important to the work of the Getty Trust.”
