at the Getty Villa. Local college students are invited to enjoy a free night of special tours, live music, food, and other activities.
Students are encouraged to attend the evening dressed in a toga and indulge in the atmosphere of the Getty Villa, a recreation of a Roman country house. A video demonstrating how to wear a toga the ancient Roman way is available on the Getty’s YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/v/BQYloC_QcWY.
Attendees can go back in time as they explore the Museum’s collection of Greek and Roman antiquities with special tours and talks led by curators and conservators, drawing sessions and art demonstrations, and photo opportunities with Roman and ancient Persian reenactors. The night will also include caricature artists, DJ sets by Trackstars and free food and drinks, plus a cash bar, for anyone 21 and over, and food concessions.
Currently on view at the Getty Villa is the special exhibition The Cyrus Cylinder and Ancient Persia: A New Beginning, featuring one of the most celebrated discoveries from the ancient world. Also on view is Tiberius: Portrait of an Emperor, featuring an over-life-size bronze statue of Tiberius (resplendent in his toga) damaged by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and brought back to life by Getty conservators.
