Docents will be responsible for weekly tours for K–12 students at the Getty Center and K–8 students at the Getty Villa.
“We are looking for broadly educated individuals who themselves want deeper experiences with art, and who are committed to deepening student engagement with artworks in our galleries,” explained Toby Tannenbaum, assistant director for Education at the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Gallery docents must be able to facilitate one-hour tours in a large building with multiple floors. They must be available for one four-hour shift a week, on weekdays from 9am to 1pm. An intensive training program focusing on the museum’s collection and gallery teaching skills will take place in July and August 2012, and new docents will be mentored by Education department staff. Docents receive ongoing behind-the-scenes educational opportunities, free parking, restaurant and gift store discounts, and annual recognition events.
Applications must be submitted by June 8, 2012.
