The Getty’s Chef de Cuisine, Matt Lee, has created a Soe-galbijjim Braised Beef Short Ribs dish served with baby root vegetables, steamed rice, house-made kimchee, and assorted Korean "banchan," or small dishes. Korean beer is also being featured. Dishes are available for lunch and dinner at The Restaurant.
Man in Korean Costume, Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens’s large-scale chalk drawing of a man wearing voluminous silk robes and a transparent headdress, is the centerpiece of the exhibition. The drawing has fascinated viewers for centuries due to the many unanswered questions surrounding the identity of the subject. The Korean community—both in Los Angeles and in Korea itself—has shown great interest in the piece since its acquisition by the Getty Museum in 1983.
