MEGAN B. CHERNIN JOINS J. PAUL GETTY TRUST BOARD

LOS ANGELES - The Board of Trustees of the J. Paul Getty Trust announced today that Megan B. Chernin has joined the Getty’s Board effective immediately.

“We are delighted to welcome Megan B. Chernin to the Board of Trustees,” said Maria Hummer-Tuttle, Board chair. “We look forward to her experience and leadership, particularly in the area of education, which is among the Getty’s highest priorities.”

Megan B. Chernin serves as the co-chair of the LA Promise Fund board of directors. She founded and served as CEO of The Los Angeles Fund for Public Education, a nonprofit organization partnering with Los Angeles schools to invest in innovative, results-oriented programs designed to ensure every student has a chance to succeed. This organization joined with LA’s Promise in 2016 to become the LA Promise Fund.

“Megan’s commitment to education will help strengthen the Getty’s ongoing work with Title 1 schools and community colleges, and increase the Getty’s ability to inspire and engage young people with our collections and exhibitions,” said James Cuno, Getty president and CEO.

Prior to founding the Fund for Public Education, Ms. Chernin was chair of the board of directors and co-founder of LA's Promise (formerly MLA Partner Schools) from 2006 to August 2011. Previously, she served as chair of the Los Angeles Mentoring Partnership (LAMP), a coalition of mentoring agencies serving greater Los Angeles. There she created programs such as Go for College, Power Lunch and Career Day to address some of the difficult challenges high school students face. She produced national public service announcements to promote the broad social and academic impacts of effective mentoring programs. Prior to LAMP, she served on the board of the Fulfillment Fund and was a mentor to high school students. Ms. Chernin has worked in the California Office of the Attorney General, as well as the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

Ms. Chernin earned a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law and a B.A. in English from Manhattanville College.

She is married to Peter Chernin. The Chernins have three adult children.

The Chernins are members of the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA Leadership Council.
